The Fair Work Commission has recently updated the Real Estate Industry Award to clarify payment entitlements for Excess Travelling.
Excess Travelling refers to additional time spent commuting from home to a location other than the employer's main premises.
Under the new rules:
Employees must be compensated for travel time exceeding their usual commute to the employer's primary workplace when required to start or end work at a different location.
This extra travel time counts as work hours, and employees are to be paid at their regular or overtime rates, as appropriate.
Those using their own vehicles for work purposes are entitled to the relevant motor vehicle allowance.
These amendments came into effect as of March 1, 2024.
